I'm not having much luck in regard to finding some script to create a Mandelbox in Maya... I haven't given up hope yet though.
In any case, we had our first DMM3 Meeting today. We pitched our ideas. Of course, now I feel like I've started down the Mandelbox track... Alistair mentioned Michael Barnsley and Kit mentioned Tim Brook - Mathematics/Fractal Art. Alistair also mentioned the Lindenmayer System (L-System on Wiki and Wolfram Mathworld)
Another thing that was mentioned was Fractal Compression and the failure of Fractal-based Music. I wonder whether there is possibility of using such "music" as accompanying audio?
Update:
I went to Hancock Library and got a few books out by Michael Barnsley (Michael.Barnsley@anu.edu.au or mbarnsley@aol.com): "Fractals Everywhere", "Superfractals" and "Fractals in Multimedia". His site, www.superfractals.com is also very interesting.

Sound Options for my Videos
I'm someone who usually leaves the sound component till the last moment, but I've been thinking about sound for a while now, convinced that I need to have music backing my video sequences. Thus, I've been familiarising myself with a DS program called Rytmik (by Cinemax), avoiding the likes of GarageBand.
I met with Alistair today and he suggested, based on the vague description I have, that I instead use the sounds from the environment, citing Blow Up as an example of such a thing.
Alistair did back up David's advice that if I did want some music that GarageBand could be useful - only to remember to avoid the guitar and piano loops as they are quite recognisable.

Gingers are evil!
Here is the music video for M.I.A's "Born Free"... very creative.
This is an awesome screen shot:

I wonder where the anti-ginger joke originally came from, other than South Park... Anyway, here's the video:
Thanks to VMan for bringing this video to my attention via the article "May Be Disturbing to Ginger and Non-Ginger Alike".

The Future of DJ'ing?
Now, this is a cool gadget.
I'd like to think that the future of computing is much like this, using panels shown here:

"Peacock" by Katy Perry
Not the best video ever but it is funny in parts, if not disturbing. The choice of sets is creative.

Justice - D.A.N.C.E.
I was watching MTV tonight and this video caught my attention. It would have taken a fair amount of time to produce the animation, let alone filming the t-shirts and applying it effectively especially with moderate environmental interaction. I like.

"The Comet Song" by Bjork from the film "Moomins and the Comet Chase"
This is a cute little video. The Moomins are cool.
Odd oriental Bjork song. Odd visuals match the song. I don't know what a Moomin is but they're weird, although I like their little felt arms. :)

MGMT - Congratulations
Here's a video by MGMT together with their song Congratuations.
I really like the creature they're following across the sand. On a side note, their other "official" video has a very plain video featuring a guy holding up anti-war signs... (though I did like the quote, "fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity" or something similar) but it's boring in comparison to this one where the poor creature looses its bits. Sad and kinda gross really.

Glad Wrap & Foil Vagina Tree
Check out the music video of iamamiwhoami, I think called 'y':
I just like the strange nature of the visuals... Also shows what you can do with lots of glad wrap, foil, paper and tape. The baby dancing is cute. Not sure on the song or the lighting of some parts but still worth a watch... stick around for the final sequence too.

Skream | Listenin' To The Records On My Wall
While browsing posts I came across this one which draws on the Adam and Eve story. What is cool is that it uses various types of art forms to make up the video... what particularly took my interest, although I think it had the potential to be much better, was the use of 'Strata-cut animation'. The 'Making Of' video was very informative too... although I think the director's teeth need attention!
Check out the making of video too.

Speaking of Joseph Khan...

After posting about 'All the Lovers', the music clip for Kylie, I started looking into Joseph Kahn's work... I love the non-conventional website design but am impressed at how many high-profile artists he's worked with.
Check him out!

All The Lovers - Kylie
I was watching MTV tonight and saw this video clip again and was reminded about how much I liked this song. Also the inclusive themes and of course the visual aspects of having such a large orgy pileup. :-) I was reminded of her visually interesting clip Come Into My World by Michel Gondry.
In any case, 'All The Lovers' was directed by Joseph Kahn, influenced by the group nude works by Spencer Tunick.

'The Lady is Dead' directed by Roy Raz
Song: 'The Lady is Dead' by The Irrepressibles.
Director: Roy Raz (http://www.facebook.com/raz.roy) of PAG Films (Check out their PAG Films YouTube Channel)
The music is great but I really enjoy the visual asthetic. Roy Raz has become a favourite based on this. The white somewhat-limbo background is great. But what he was going for... is it a commentary on gay culture like some have supposed or even on STI's?
When I watch it, I'm left feeling kind of lost, or at a loss... with a sense of hopelessness teven. It definitely evokes an emotional reaction. Whether intentional or not, with the tennis of the organ and the touching of transmission of the black pain, or even the transmission of black between the three guys, it seems to indicate an STI message and even conveys the hopelessness via the gaze of the heavily made up actor.
Either way. I'm a fan.

[AJ] Australian Journey's Exhibition @ NMA
We visited the Australian Journey’s exhibit on Friday.
The exhibits that stood out were:
1. Maps. The simplicity and unique nature of the diagrams. Also the story about the equator being too hot to cross and that religion said that beasts found past the equator would be an abomination. I like the words, looks like latin. Could the map be animated or manipulated in some way? Could I make an Australian/Southern map with similar aspects. NMA Four World Maps Collection
2. Jars of mud and sea creatures. I could make my own jars… I’m thinking clear liquid with a leaf, a flower, a blade of grass… photographed and represented in a 3D perspective, using some kind of 3D Model plus projection.
3. Musical Instruments - Make a website where you can play those instruments. Alternatively, try to research heavily the olive-oil tin that was used by the guy for his instrument. Looking up its history instead.
